SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 29 (STC): Director Information Jammu and Kashmir Mamta Yadav in a statement given to media on the sidelines of a function has said that the draft of the new media policy is being reviewed from various aspects and during this, the questions raised by the concerned authorities and issues requiring clarification are being answered.
She expressed the hope that the process will be completed soon and the policy will be finalized. She said that a set procedure is adopted to formulate any policy and bring it to approval.
She said, “The proposed policy has also tried to include those aspects which are not adequately covered in the ambit of the existing media policy. Especially, the growing popularity of social media and its widespread use in conveying information to the public is being taken into account.”
She said that in the present era, the importance of platforms like Instagram and Facebook has increased significantly and they have become an important part of media, public relations and advertising campaigns. That is why the issues related to these platforms have been included in the new policy.
It is noteworthy that the proposed media policy is under consideration at a time when the issue of increasing number of unregulated social media news platforms, online trolling and promotion of misleading content was discussed during the recently concluded autumn session of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly.
