SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 29 (STC): Owing to Darbar Move, heavy vehicles will not be allowed to ply from Jammu to Srinagar on October 31 and November 1, while priority will be given to fruit trucks, said Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Traffic Kashmir Haseeb-ur-Rehman. He has appealed to passengers and drivers to follow the instructions and advisories issued by the traffic department before starting their journey.
The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Traffic Kashmir said that a special traffic plan has been prepared to keep the movement of vehicles organized during Darbar Move, under which priority will be given to vehicles related to Darbar Move. He said that special arrangements have also been made for the movement of fruit trucks so that they do not face any difficulties in reaching the markets on time.
He said that if the road is closed for any reason, the fruit trucks will be kept at the forefront of the queue, so that they can be sent towards Jammu on priority basis after the road opens. He clarified that the traffic department will make every effort to facilitate the movement of fruit trucks.
He added that so far the traffic movement has been overall smooth and no major problems have been reported.
He said that the latest information regarding traffic is provided through print, electronic and social media. Apart from this, the Traffic Control Unit’s helpline number 103 can also be contacted to know about the current situation of the roads.
In response to a question about the increasing traffic pressure and frequent traffic jams in Srinagar city, the DIG Traffic said that the increasing number of vehicles on the roads is a major reason for this problem. He said that the government is considering various measures to improve parking facilities and develop road infrastructure in the city.
He said that the proposed projects include construction of flyovers from Batamaloo to Bemina and from Dalgate to Pandach, besides proposals for construction of two new flyovers on the bypass.
The DIG Traffic expressed the hope that improving road infrastructure and implementing new projects will improve traffic movement in Srinagar and reduce the difficulties faced by people during their daily commute.
Regarding barricades on roads, he said that sometimes barricades are installed for security reasons or after receiving information about a suspicious vehicle. He said that traffic is not stopped unnecessarily but such measures are taken under necessary security requirements.
