SRINAGAR, NOVEMBER 03 (STC): Terming the decision of National Conference MP Syed Agha Ruhullah Mehdi to leave the party as a possible result of lack of ideological harmony, Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President Tariq Hameed Karra has said that every political leader has his own ideology and reasons based on which he decides to leave a political party.
While talking to journalists on the sidelines of a party function in Jammu, JKPCC Chief answered questions related to the recent political situation in Jammu and Kashmir, alleged differences within the National Conference and Agha Ruhullah’s resignation.
He said that despite the alleged separate meetings of some National Conference MLAs after the recent cabinet expansion and Agha Ruhullah’s resignation from the party, he is confident that the National Conference is capable of dealing with the current situation.
In response to a question asked about Agha Ruhullah’s departure from the National Conference, Karra said that everyone has their own reasons for separating from a political party. “The main reason for the differences between Agha Ruhullah and the party could be the lack of ideological harmony. Agha Ruhullah had a different perspective, while the party was moving in a different direction. There may have been a lack of ideological harmony between the two,” he said. Referring to his political experiences on this occasion, he said that in September 2016, he also resigned from Parliament and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), while Ghulam Nabi Azad had separated from the Congress in August 2022. He said that political leaders take such decisions based on different circumstances and their personal and political reasons and it is important to understand their background.
On a question regarding the future and stability of the National Conference-led government, the Congress President said that in the current circumstances, it would be premature to speculate about the stability of the government or its duration. According to him, such differences between political parties and governments are not uncommon and such issues can be resolved through mutual talks, contacts and internal coordination.
He said that he is fully confident that the National Conference will play an active role in dealing with this situation and the party will try to resolve the differences at its level.
Reacting to speculations regarding BJP leader Ram Madhav’s visit to Jammu and the possibility of any major political development on Tuesday, Tariq Hameed Karra said that the Congress does not have any information regarding any such development at present nor is the party expecting any such change.
On this occasion, Karra mentioned the political cooperation of the Congress with the National Conference and made it clear that the Congress will stand by it in case the BJP poses any kind of threat to the National Conference.
He said that the Congress has always been of the same stand that whenever the National Conference faces any political threat from the BJP, the Congress should stand firmly with it.
He stressed that political cooperation between the two parties will continue. Speaking on the demand for restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, Karra said that the Congress will continue its struggle to achieve this goal.
He said that for the last two years, the party has been running various protest programs, hunger strikes and public campaigns under the slogan “Our State, Our Right”. According to him, the Congress has also launched campaigns like “Jammu Chalo” and “Delhi Chalo” to highlight the demand for restoration of statehood and this is a continuous movement which will be continued in the future as well.
