India Asia Cup 2025 squad announced; Suryakumar Yadav remains team captain

AUGUST 19 (STC):
India’s 15-member squad was announced on Tuesday by the chairman of selectors, Ajit Agarkar.
Shubman Gill has been named vice-captain, while Suryakumar Yadav remains the team captain.
Here is the team:
Suryakumar Yadav (Captain), Shubman Gill (Vice-captain), Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Jitesh Sharma, Varun Chakaravarthy, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana, and Rinku Singh.
There are additionally five stand-by players:
Prasidh Krishna, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Washington Sundar, Dhruv Jurel and Riyan Parag.
It’s worth mentioning that the Asia Cup 2025 begins on September 9 in the UAE, and India’s squad announcement carries extra weight this time. The tournament has been under the spotlight for weeks, with India and Pakistan drawn in the same group. Depending on results, the arch-rivals could clash up to three times – a tantalising yet controversial prospect, especially after India had recently refused multiple meetings with Pakistan in the WCL.
The biggest positive is Jasprit Bumrah’s availability. Returning to T20Is after more than a year, he is expected to spearhead the attack alongside Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, and youngster Harshit Rana.
