PS Nowgam blast not intentional, clarifies J&K Police

Authorities urges general public to “avoid spreading conjectures.”

SRINAGAR, NOVEMBER 20 (STC): The accidental explosion at Police Station Nowgam on 14th November 2025 occurred during forensic sample collection. A high-level committee has been formed to investigate, said Jammu and Kashmir Police in a “rejoinder” post on X today and has urged the general public to “avoid spreading conjectures.”
The police clarified reports circulating on social media regarding the accidental explosion at PS Nowgam, Srinagar, stating that several posts are based on conjecture and misleading the public.
Authorities said no intentional act was involved in the incident.
According to the reports, a high-level committee was constituted by the J&K government on November 16, 2025, to examine the incident. The committee is chaired by the Principal Secretary, Home Department, and includes the Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Zone, the District Magistrate of Srinagar, and a senior scientist from the Central Forensic Sciences Laboratory, Government of India.
The committee’s mandate is to investigate the circumstances of the accidental explosion, identify procedural lapses if any, and recommend measures to prevent similar incidents in the future, reads the report.
Meanwhile, the police urged citizens to rely only on verified official sources and refrain from spreading unverified social media claims about the incident.
The department also reiterated that the investigation is ongoing and all safety measures have been reinforced to prevent recurrence.
