SRINAGAR, NOVEMBER 01 (STC): Strongly criticizing the rally organized by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi today, Home Minister Amit Shah said that holding such a political rally on the anniversary of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots is like rubbing salt in the wounds of the victims, who lost their loved ones and homes in this tragic tragedy.
Hone Minister Amit Shah stated this while addressing a public meeting after inaugurating and laying the foundation stone of various development projects worth Rs 258 crore in Chandigarh.
Criticizing the Congress over the issue of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, Shah said that on November 1, 1984, thousands of Sikhs were mercilessly killed in Delhi and that day is remembered as a dark chapter in the country’s history.
The Home Minister, while giving details of the 1984 riots, said that during this time thousands of Sikhs were burnt alive, several families were forced to leave their homes, many children became orphans, women became widows and a large number of people’s houses were burnt down.
He also referred to the statement made by former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi at that time, in which he had said that when a big tree falls, the earth shakes. Amit Shah said that he could not forget this statement till today and according to him, it was very sad to make such a statement after the killing of thousands of people.
He said that Congress leaders should answer for their responsibility regarding the 1984 riots. According to him, India has never seen such riots before and neither should such incidents happen again in the future. Shah said that after the Narendra Modi government came to power in 2014, the cases related to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots were reopened and action was taken against those involved in the violence.
He claimed that the immediate family of each person killed in the riots was provided with a compensation of Rs 5 lakh, while some important Congress leaders were also sent to jail in connection with these cases.
The Union Home Minister also criticized the opposition alliance India Bloc’s protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gianish Kumar. It is worth noting that the India Bloc had organised a ‘Chalu Delhi’ protest at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi, through which the Chief Election Commissioner was accused of electoral irregularities and alleged vote-rigging. Commenting on Rahul Gandhi’s political behaviour, Amit Shah said that if he wants to become the Prime Minister, he should remain in a mock Parliament for the rest of his life, because according to him, his turn will never come.
He accused the opposition of playing the politics of lying, spreading chaos and obstructing the proceedings of Parliament.
