Awareness programme on Nasha Mukt Bharat held at GDC, Hyderpora

: Government Degree College Hyderpora today organized an insightful ‘Awareness Talk’ on Nasha Mukt Bharat, aimed at sensitizing students about the alarming rise of drug abuse and the collective responsibility to curb this growing menace.
The programme was organized by the Coordinator, Nasha Mukt Bharat, in collaboration with the NSS Unit of GDC Hyderpora, reflecting the institution’s commitment to student welfare and social responsibility.
The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Majid Shafi, Consultant Psychiatrist and Nodal Officer for Mental Health & Addiction Treatment, Directorate of Health Services Kashmir.
Dr. Majid Shafi deliberated extensively on the nature of drug addiction, its psychological, social, and health-related consequences, and highlighted the urgent need for awareness-driven interventions. He emphasized the pivotal role of educational institutions in creating informed and resilient youth capable of resisting substance abuse. He talked about the challenges faced by the Gen Z and the overload of information they receive from their environment, which is the prime reason for their short attention span.
He was accompanied by Dr. Syed Umer, who provided valuable insights into various treatment strategies for addiction. He discussed early detection, psychological counselling, rehabilitation procedures, and the importance of family support in recovery, stressing that addiction is a treatable condition when approached with empathy and scientific guidance.
Notably, Principal Dr. Sharief Ud Din Khan, welcomed the distinguished guests. In his address, he underscored the significance of organizing awareness programmes to combat the menace of drug addiction. He appreciated the efforts of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Coordinator and the NSS Unit for conducting such an important event.
An engaging question–answer session followed, during which students asked pertinent and thoughtful questions regarding mental health challenges, drug dependence, and preventive measures. The experts responded comprehensively, clearing doubts and guiding students towards healthier lifestyle choices.
The proceedings of the Programme were conducted by Prof. Abdaal Ahmad Bhat, Coordinator, Nasha Mukt Bharat, ensuring smooth coordination of all segments of the event. The session concluded with a vote of thanks presented by Prof. Nisar Ahmad, expressing gratitude to the resource persons, faculty, NSS volunteers and students for their active participation.
