JAMMU, MARCH 11 (STC)
: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said his father and former Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah had a “very close shave” after a man armed with a pistol fired a shot at him, with the attempt foiled by his security personnel.
In a post on X, CM Omar confirmed the incident involving the National Conference president, who is protected by the Z-plus category of the National Security Guard (NSG).
“Allah is kind. My father had a very close shave. The details are sketchy at the moment but what is known is that a man with a loaded pistol was able to get within point blank range & discharge a shot.
It was only the close protection team that deflected the shot & ensured that the assassination attempt failed,” the Chief Minister said.
Raising questions over the security breach, he said, “There are more questions than answers at the moment including but not limited to how someone was able to get this close to a Z+ NSG protected former CM.”
Official sources said the incident took place in Delhi’s Greater Kailash area when a man, posing as a supporter, managed to get close to Dr Farooq Abdullah and fired. They said the prompt reaction by the NSG personnel on duty averted the attack. A detailed probe has been ordered into the matter.
