SRINAGAR, JUNE 28 (STC): Jammu and Kashmir’s former Sadr-i-Riyasat Dr. Karan Singh accompanied by his daughter Dr. Jyotsna Singh, visited the famous shrine of Charar-i-Sharief today.
Dr. Karan Singh offered a chaadar and donation to the shrine. The local priest prayed
for his health and welfare, and mentioned that several of his
generations had visited this shrine.
“My father had tied a green ribbon here praying for a son, and visited again to undo it after I was born,” said Dr. Karan Singh.
He was happy to see the new ziarat that was built after
“foreign agents” had set the shrine ablaze in 1995 and reduced it to dust except for the sacred grave itself.
Talking to newsman he commented that the fact that Dr. Farooq Abdullah had visited the Kheer Bhawani shrine recently, and he himself was visiting Charar-i-Sharief is a clear symbol of the interfaith tradition for many centuries in Kashmir.
