Evening cloudbursts trigger flash floods in parts of North & South Kashmir

SRINAGAR, AUGUST 05 (STC): Owing to cloudbursts in parts of south and north Kashmir, flash floods on Wednesday evening, caused a sharp rise in water levels in several streams and nallahs. However, no loss of life was reported, reports quoting officials said.
Reports said, intense thundershowers lashed the Shopian-Kulgam belt for nearly 90 minutes during the afternoon, resulting in a rapid increase in the water level of small streams and nallahs and raising the possibility of localized flash floods in vulnerable areas.
A cloudburst later emerged from Nandimarg in Kulgam district, where a massive surge was witnessed in the Namlan Nallah. Water levels also rose sharply in several adjoining streams, officials said.
Another cloudburst struck the Dazna and Lachipora areas of Uri in Baramulla district between 5 pm and 6 pm, causing the local nallah to overflow.
Reports said that the overflowing nallah led to minor impacts on a few nearby structures, but no major damage to property was reported.
There were no reports of casualties or injuries in either incident.
