RAJOURI, AUGUST 08 (STC): Floods following heavy rains have caused extensive damage to agricultural land, standing crops and other properties in various areas of Rajouri, leaving many farmers facing severe financial difficulties, said reports.
According to the affected people, the agricultural land of about 25 to 30 families in Saj ​​and Planghar areas has been destroyed by the rapid flow of the river. These families were mostly dependent on agriculture and suffered heavy losses due to crop damage. A local resident told the media that despite the damage caused by the flood, the administration did not pay proper attention to the affected areas.
They also claimed that the local MLA has not visited the affected area yet. Meanwhile, in Mehra village of Rajouri, the fresh flood has further damaged the already affected agricultural land. According to a farmer, the land left after the July 19 flood was also washed away in the recent flood. The farmer said that about 10 to 12 kanals of his family’s land, while a total of about 50 kanals of agricultural land of his relatives were destroyed by the flood. About 30 to 40 families in the village have been affected by similar losses.
The affected farmers have demanded that the administration immediately assess the damage and provide adequate compensation and assistance to the affected families.
