Independence Day function venues secured through multi-tier security arrangements: IGP Birdi

Urges people to join celebrations in large numbers.

SRINAGAR, AUGUST 11 (STC): To ensure peaceful Independence Day celebrations. multi-tier security arrangements have been put in place across Kashmir, said Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir V K Birdi.
IGP Birdi while talking to reporters here said, “Security has been strengthened at key venues across Srinagar city and districts of the Valley. Multi-tier security arrangements are in place not only at the venues but also around the city and in all districts of the Valley.”

He said preparations for the main Independence Day function in Srinagar were underway, including full-dress rehearsals and other arrangements to ensure the event is conducted smoothly.
He also appealed to people to participate in the celebrations in large numbers, saying the Independence Day function was ultimately an occasion for the people.
“The function is for the people. The police work as an organiser. Since it is the function of the people, we ask people to participate in this function in large numbers so that it can be carried on successfully,” he said.
Notably, security arrangements across Kashmir are being intensified ahead of the Independence Day celebrations, with special focus on major venues, Srinagar city and other parts of the Valley.
