BJP leaders, workers stage strong protest against ‘failure’ of NC-led government in Srinagar

SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 02 (STC): Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP’s) Jammu Kashmir unit staged a strong protest against the government at Ghanta Ghar Lal Chowk, Srinagar, against the lack of basic amenities to the people in Jammu and Kashmir.
The protestors were holding placards in their hands. On this occasion, Leader of Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly and senior BJP leader Sunil Sharma protested against the Jammu and Kashmir government and challenged Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to resign from the Ganderbal Assembly constituency and get a fresh public mandate on the same issue if he is serious about restoring statehood. Addressing the protest, Sunil Sharma said that BJP workers will march from Lal Chowk to the Civil Secretariat. He alleged that the people of Jammu and Kashmir are currently facing severe difficulties and it has become difficult for the common man to live.
Sunil Sharma said that there is a water crisis in different areas of Jammu and Kashmir, but there is no minister concerned to review the situation, nor are there fitters or executive engineers in the field. He also criticized the government on the situation of government hospitals, saying that there is a shortage of doctors and medical staff in hospitals and proper arrangements are not being made to take care of poor patients.
The LOP also questioned the situation of government educational institutions, alleging that there is a shortage of teachers, masters and headmasters in many schools.
Criticizing Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Sunil Sharma asked whether the people of Jammu and Kashmir had elected him to “live like a prince and ski in Gulmarg and Pahalgam?”
He said that the issue of restoration of statehood is actually an important promise of the BJP and the party has promised the people that the statehood of Jammu and Kashmir will be restored at the appropriate time.
The BJP leader also accused the government of outsourcing about 25,000 jobs and said that instead of providing employment to the youth, they are facing various problems. According to Sunil Sharma, the BJP’s protest is mainly based on four main demands and issues, including alleged selling of jobs and non-transparent recruitment process, non-conduct of local body elections, alleged widespread corruption and increase in electricity tariffs. He said that the government should focus on public issues and provide relief to the common people of Jammu and Kashmir. Basic amenities, employment and a transparent system should be provided.
The BJP, increasing pressure on the government through protests, demanded immediate resolution of these issues and said that it is the party’s responsibility to hold the government accountable on matters related to public interest.
