J&K and Ladakh High Court approves establishment of its permanent liaison office in Delhi

SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 18 (STC): The Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court has approved the establishment of a Resident Office of the High Court in New Delhi.
In this regard, the Registrar General, High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh has issued an order No. 1468 of 2026 dated September 18, 2026. The order envisages that the Resident Office to be established in New Delhi will work to ensure better coordination and effective coordination between the High Court and the Supreme Court of India in judicial, administrative and institutional matters.
The main responsibilities of the Resident Office will include coordination with the Standing Counsel and other lawyers appearing on behalf of the High Court in the Supreme Court. The office will also monitor the progress of cases related to the High Court and ensure timely transmission of records, directions, comments and replies, reads the order.
Besides, as per the order, the Resident Office will facilitate the implementation of the directions issued by the Supreme Court from time to time. The office will also play its role in dealing with administrative and institutional matters requiring coordination at the national level.
“The office located in New Delhi will have to maintain regular contact with the Supreme Court Registry, the Ministry of Law and Justice, the Government of India, constitutional bodies, judicial institutions, various ministries, departments and other relevant agencies located in New Delhi,” reads the order.
The Resident Office has also been entrusted with the responsibility of establishing and maintaining a secure communication system for sensitive and confidential matters requiring direct communication between the High Court and the Supreme Court. Apart from this, the office shall also perform such other duties as may be assigned by the Chief Justice from time to time.
The order further specifies that the Resident Office New Delhi shall function under the supervision and control of the Registrar (Headquarters), New Delhi. The said officer shall be responsible for the administration of the office, coordination with the concerned agencies and its efficient functioning. The Registrar (Headquarters), New Delhi, shall report on his affairs to the Chief Justice through the Registrar General.
