Resolution seeking TET exemption for pre-Oct 2019 teachers tabled in Assembly

SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 22 (STC): Education Minister Sakina Itoo today tabled a resolution in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly urging the Union Government to exempt all teachers appointed before October 31, 2019 from appearing in the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET).
‎Moving the resolution in the House, Sakina urged the Centre to make the necessary statutory amendment to Section 23 of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009, to provide the exemption to teachers appointed before the cut-off date.
‎The resolution further urged the Union Government to take all necessary legal steps and issue the requisite notification through the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) for exemption of these teachers from the TET requirement.
‎It specifically calls for the requisite legal and regulatory measures to be taken through the NCTE to give effect to the proposed exemption.
‎The resolution seeks to cover all teachers appointed before October 31, 2019, from the requirement of appearing in the Teacher Eligibility Test.
‎The resolution will come up for discussion on September 24.
