SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 25 (STC): Announcing that the ‘Vocal for Local’ campaign is playing a significant role in bringing Indian products to global markets, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that public awareness regarding the use of local products is increasing in the country. This has opened new doors of international markets for Indian farmers, rural artisans and local industrialists.
Addressing the 139th episode of his monthly radio program ‘Mann Ki Baat’, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the spirit of promoting local products is now going beyond the borders of India and the country’s traditional and agricultural products are making their mark on the global stage.
He said that during the upcoming festive season, especially during Diwali and Chhath, citizens should prefer locally made products while shopping. According to him, doing so will strengthen local businesses, increase income opportunities for farmers and artisans and help in turning the dream of a self-sufficient India into a reality.
The Prime Minister said that a change in shopping trends is being felt during the festive season and people are starting to give more importance to local products. “This same spirit of ‘Vocal for Local’ is proving helpful in making Indian products recognizable in the global markets,” the PM said.
He also appreciated the efforts of the tribal communities of Maharashtra, who are presenting traditional handicrafts in line with the needs of the modern market. According to the Prime Minister, the packaging of these products has been awarded the prestigious ‘Good Design Award’ of Japan. He termed the award as a recognition of the creativity of tribal communities and their efforts to adapt traditional skills to modern requirements.
He said that this example highlights that if attention is paid to the quality, packaging and presentation of local products, then people associated with traditional skills can also access wider markets.
On the occasion of important festivals like Diwali and Chhath, Prime Minister Modi appealed to people to prefer products manufactured by local artisans, small businesses and Indian industrialists while shopping. He said that purchasing local goods not only benefits the country’s economy but also promotes the hard work of those who earn their livelihood through traditional skills, handicrafts and agricultural activities.
According to him, the aim of encouraging local products is not limited to purchasing domestic goods, but also to manufacturing Indian products as per world standards and introducing them effectively in international markets.
The Prime Minister expressed the hope that the ‘Vocal for Local’ campaign will be further strengthened through public participation and India will be able to make a difference in the world. Agricultural produce, traditional handicrafts and rural industries will get new recognition at the global level. He said that efforts to prioritize local products and bring them to global markets can play an important role in advancing the concept of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’, i.e. self-reliant India.
