STC NEWS DESK
Srinagar, January 24 (STC): A clinic in Dara Syedpora, Harwan, accused of offering unproven medical treatments, was sealed and medicines were also seized for investigation.
Calling the treatment protocol of this clinic as ‘quackery’, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Srinagar, Dr. Tahir Sajad, said, “We have seized clinic and medicines as well. Samples of medicines have been taken and will go through investigations to verify their authenticity and assess any violations of medical practices.”
It’s worth mentioning that a few days back the Head of the Department of Paediatrics at GMC urged Principal GMC Srinagar to take strong measures against the practice of quackery.
In his letter, the paediatrician has requested to protect public health and safety. “We need to take some strong measures against the practice of quackery,” reads the letter.
Quoting an incident involving quackery practices, the letter further reads:
“During the past few years, there have been several cases of acute liver failure in patients who were previously discharged from this hospital. After leaving the hospital, they went to some place in Dara Harwan to get miracle cures, wherein they received unproven medical treatments and complementary therapies, leading them to land in the ICU with acute liver failure and eventually die.”
Meanwhile, general public is keenly watching government’s action against network of quacks practising as medical doctors. (STC)
