SRINAGAR, MARCH 10 (STC): Gulmarg fashion show controversy refuses to die down despite assurance from the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to look into the matter. The entire performing artist community of Jammu and Kashmir has strongly condemned the show, calling it shameful and unacceptable act In a statement issued today to media, the spokesperson of the performing artist community and the most popular singer Waheed Jeelani says that organizing a vulgar fashion show at Gulmarg by the Department of Tourism Kashmir during the holy month of Ramadan is shameful and unacceptable act.
“This disgraceful event, held under the leadership of an unfit and insensitive Director, is a direct insult to our rich cultural heritage, ethical values, and religious sentiments,” reads the statement.
The statement further reads: “Ramadan is a sacred month of spirituality, reflection, and devotion. Instead of promoting programs that align with the ethos and traditions of Kashmir, the Tourism Department has irresponsibly chosen to host an event that goes against the very fabric of our society. Such blatant disregard for the sentiments of the people of Jammu and Kashmir is not only offensive but also unacceptable.”
Jeelani has demanded immediate removal of the Director of Tourism, who, according to him, has repeatedly failed to uphold the cultural and moral integrity of our land. “Additionally, strict action must be taken against all those involved in organizing and approving this insensitive event. The authorities must ensure that government-sponsored initiatives respect and preserve the values of our people rather than undermine them,” says Jeelani.
The artist community of Jammu and Kashmir stands united against this act and urges the administration to take immediate corrective measures to prevent such disrespectful incidents in the future, he said. (STC)
