Kashmir Film Society condemns semi-nude fashion show in Gulmarg

SRINAGAR, MARCH 10 (STC): Chairman of the Kashmir Film Society, Mushtaq Bala, in a statement issued to media has strongly condemned the semi-nude fashion show recently organized in Gulmarg. He called it an insult to Kashmiri culture, ethics, and religious values.
Expressing outrage over the event, Bala criticized the organizers for their insensitivity towards the sentiments of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He stated that such events go against the rich cultural heritage of the region and reflect a complete disregard for local traditions.
“This is a blatant assault on our values and cultural ethos. Kashmir has always been known for its deep-rooted traditions and respect for religious sentiments. Hosting such an event in the holy month of Ramadan is not only irresponsible but also deeply offensive,” Bala remarked while talking to Straight Talk Communications.
He further urged the authorities to take strict action against those responsible for approving and organizing the event. Calling for accountability, he emphasized the need for cultural and artistic initiatives that align with the region’s heritage rather than undermine it.

Notably, the controversy surrounding the fashion show has sparked widespread outrage, with calls for greater oversight to ensure that public events respect the cultural and moral sensitivities of Kashmir.
It’s worth mentioning that the organisers of the event have removed videos of the event from social media platforms. Even government has disassociated itself from the event, saying no permission was sought for the event. (STC)
