JAMMU, APRIL 14 (STC): Dr. Arti Nanda, an eminent pediatric dermatologist hailing from Reasi, has been unanimously elected President of the International Society of Pediatric Dermatology (ISPD). She replaced the outgoing President Dr. Amy Paller (USA).
The ISPD is a globally respected organization in the field of dermatology and she will remain its president for a four-year term spanning 2025 to 2029.
The official transition of leadership took place at the World Congress of Pediatric Dermatology, held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, from April 7 to April 11, 2025.
Remarkably. Dr. Arti Nanda becomes the first person of Indian origin to be elected President of the ISPD in its illustrious history. Her elevation to this global leadership position is not only a personal triumph but also a matter of immense pride for the nation and the Indian medical fraternity.
Humble Beginnings, Stellar Journey
Dr. Nanda’s rise to international acclaim is deeply rooted in her humble beginnings. Born in Jammu and raised in the small town of Reasi, located in the Jammu region of Jammu & Kashmir, she belongs to a respected Dogra family. She is the daughter of the late Shri Madhav Lal Nanda, a renowned lawyer, leader, and social activist, and Smt. Kailash Nanda, an esteemed educationist. She is married to renowned Nephrologist Dr. Madan Mohan Kapoor and is the elder sister of Engineer Sanjay Nanda and Ajay Nanda, former Minister and MLA of Jammu and Kashmir. She is the granddaughter of late Roop Chand Nanda, a celebrated lawyer and one of the founding members of the Praja Parishad Movement in J&K.
Dr. Nanda received her early education in government schools in Reasi and went on to graduate in medicine from Government Medical College, Jammu. She pursued her postgraduate and super-specialty training in Dermatology and Venereology from the prestigious Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh. She also holds a DNB in Dermatology and has served as a Senior Resident at PGIMER, Chandigarh, and for a brief period at AIIMS, Delhi.
A Career Marked by Dedication and Global Impact
With over four decades of clinical experience, Dr. Arti Nanda has made exceptional contributions to the field of pediatric dermatology. Currently based in Kuwait, she serves as a Consultant Dermatologist and Head of the Pediatric Dermatology Unit. She also heads the Rare Skin Diseases Clinic, Autoimmune Bullous Diseases Clinic, and the Cutaneous Lymphoma Clinic.
Dr. Nanda is a leading medical educator, currently serving as Research Coordinator, and has held roles such as Director and Assistant Program Director of the Dermatology Board at the Kuwait Institute of Medical Specialization. She teaches both undergraduate and postgraduate medical students and is a frequent speaker at conferences.
Global Impact
Her academic contributions are equally impressive. Dr. Nanda has authored more than 170 research publications, most of which have been published in leading international medical journals. Her research has had a global impact, advancing the clinical understanding and treatment of complex skin conditions, particularly in pediatric populations. She has been an invited speaker and chair in more than 20 countries for various international congresses, including the World Congresses of Dermatology and Pediatric Dermatology, American Academy of Dermatology, European Academy of Dermatology, and the European Society of Pediatric Dermatology, to name a few.
She began her international academic journey as an Advisory Board Member of the ISPD (2014–2017), followed by positions of the ISPD Board Director (2017–2021), Secretary General of ISPD (2021–2025), and now President (2025 onwards). She is also a member of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology’s Task Force on Pediatric Dermatology and Autoimmune Blistering Diseases. In 2022, she received the International League of Dermatologists’ (ILDS) Award of Appreciation for the global advancement in Pediatric Dermatology, the highest certificate of recognition in the field of dermatology.
