BJP Health & Medical Cell J&K Co-convenor slams NC-led government over grievances of MBBS & BDS medical interns

SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 04: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Health & Medical Cell, J&K UT, has strongly criticized the National Conference (NC)-led government and its alliance partner, the Indian National Congress, over the persistent neglect of protesting MBBS and BDS medical interns across Jammu & Kashmir.
In a strongly worded press statement, Khurshid Ahmad Naqati, Co-Convenor of the BJP Health & Medical Cell J&K UT, expressed grave concern over the plight of medical interns who are urgently demanding a hike in their monthly stipend from the meager existing ₹12,300 to ₹30,000.
Highlighting the key issues of the medical students, Nakati in his statement said, “The monthly remuneration for medical interns has remained completely unchanged since 2019, failing to account for skyrocketing inflation and the escalating cost of living. Besides, the interns are subjected to grueling workload.”
He said interns form the backbone of hospital operations, putting in high-stress hours, night shifts, emergency services, and vital patient care responsibilities.
Naqati also slammed the ruling NC-Congress alliance for failing to deliver on major pre-election commitments, including employment generation, free electricity, subsidized LPG cylinders, and the regularisation of daily wagers.
”The elected government cannot remain silent when young medical professionals are compelled to protest for their legitimate and long-pending demands. MBBS and BDS interns are an indispensable part of the healthcare delivery system and deserve fair and dignified compensation,” stated Khurshid Ahmad Naqati.
in a direct appeal to the Health Ministry, Naqati specifically questioned the functioning of the J&K Health Department and Health Minister Sakina Itoo, noting the administration’s failure to adequately address or resolve the genuine grievances of the protesting doctors.
The BJP Health & Medical Cell has formally urged the J&K Government and the Health Minister to engage directly with the protesting medical interns without delay and review and align the remuneration to the demanded standard. He also asked the government to
provide formal and prompt resolution to prevent further disruption in healthcare services.
Reiterating the party’s stance, Naqati affirmed that the BJP Health & Medical Cell stands in absolute solidarity with the medical interns and will continue to advocate vigorously for healthcare professionals, patients, and the strengthening of the overall medical ecosystem in Jammu & Kashmir.
