SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 10 (STC): It is necessary to create an education system that is compatible with the requirements of the future, which prepares students not only to succeed in exams but also to face the challenges of real life, said Chief Minister Omar Abdullah while addressing the School Leader of the Year 2026 Summit and Awardees held in New Delhi.
He said that education should not be limited to academic performance and exam results alone, but should focus on instilling such skills and values in students that enable them to understand and cope with the demands of a rapidly changing world. He stressed that in a future-ready education system, it is necessary to develop critical thinking, digital literacy and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances in students.
“Along with this, it is also important to create a sense of shared responsibility among the youth,” the Chief Minister said adding that meaningful change in the education sector is not possible through the efforts of any single institution or party, but for this, governments, teachers, educational institutions and social communities will have to work together.
He said that all the stakeholders should work together to create an educational environment that encourages innovation, independent thinking and highlighting the hidden talents of students.
While describing the role of educational institutions and school heads as important, Omar Abdullah said that their responsibility is not only to provide curricular education to students, but also to play an important role in making them confident, talented and responsible citizens, so that they can play a positive role in the development of society in the future.
He emphasized that instead of preparing students only for success in examinations, the main objective of the education system should be to equip them with essential life skills and enable them to face future challenges with confidence. In this summit, along with recognizing outstanding services in the field of school education, institutional leadership, educational innovation Focus was also placed on various aspects of improving the quality of education and teaching.
He highlighted the need to give equal importance to practical skills, technical awareness, critical thinking and social responsibility in the education system along with curricular education, so that the young generation can take advantage of future opportunities and meet the challenges they face.
