How the Qur’an Develops a Farsighted, Ethical, and Responsible Human Being
“This is a blessed Book which We have revealed to you, so that they may reflect upon its verses, and that people of understanding may take heed.”
(Qur’an 38:29)
In the previous three parts of, we explored:
The concept of Islamic foresight.
The distinction between foresight and prediction.
The relationship between foresight, Divine Decree (Qadr), and human responsibility.
The balance between planning and trust in Allah.
A fundamental question now arises: Does the Holy Qur’an teach foresight?
The answer is yes.
In fact, the Qur’an is not merely a book of worship or law. It is a complete guide for developing the human mind, heart, character, and leadership.
The Qur’an trains believers to think deeply, act wisely, plan responsibly, and remain conscious of Allah in every decision they make.
It transforms information into wisdom and knowledge into righteous action.
The Qur’an Teaches How to Think
One of the greatest characteristics of the Qur’an is that it does not simply tell people what to think. Rather, it teaches them how to think. Throughout the Qur’an, Allah repeatedly invites humanity to:
Reflect
Reason
Observe
Understand
Learn
Remember
Draw lessons
These intellectual and spiritual processes form the foundation of Islamic foresight.
REFLECTION (TADABBUR)
Allah says:
“Do they not then reflect upon the Qur’an?”
(Qur’an 4:82)
Reflection is much more than reading. It means:
■Thinking deeply.
■Understanding ■consequences.
■Identifying causes.
■Learning from history.
■Discovering Divine wisdom.
Every farsighted decision begins with thoughtful reflection.
DEEP THINKING (TAFAKKUR)
Allah says:
“Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth are signs for people of understanding.”
(Qur’an 3:190)
The Qur’an encourages believers to study creation carefully.
NATURE ITSELF BECOMES A CLASSROOM
Everything in creation points toward Divine wisdom and teaches lessons about planning, balance, responsibility, and purpose.
REASONING (‘Aql)
Throughout the Qur’an Allah repeatedly asks:
“Will you not use your reason?” This recurring question demonstrates that Islam rejects blind imitation. Faith is strengthened—not weakened—by sound reasoning. Islam encourages believers to seek evidence, evaluate information, and make informed decisions.
INSIGHT (BASIRAH)
Insight is more than eyesight. It is the ability to perceive reality beyond appearances. An ordinary person observes events. A person with insight understands:
●Their causes,
●Their consequences,
●Their moral lessons,
●And Allah’s wisdom behind them.
The Qur’an consistently links insight with sincere faith.
WISDOM (ḤIKMAH)
Allah says:
“Whoever is granted wisdom has certainly been granted abundant good.”
(Qur’an 2:269)
Wisdom enables a person to:
Make the right decision at the right time.
Distinguish priorities.
Balance emotion with reason.
Consider both worldly and eternal consequences.
Lead others with justice and compassion.
Knowledge informs, wisdom guides.
How the Qur’an Builds a Farsighted Personality
The Qur’an teaches that:
▪︎Every action has consequences.
▪︎Every blessing is a trust.
▪︎Every authority carries accountability.
▪︎Every decision will ultimately be presented before Allah.
Therefore, believers are encouraged to evaluate every decision in light of both this world and the Hereafter. This is the essence of Islamic foresight.
THE QUR’AN AND STRATEGIC PLANNING
Although the Qur’an is not a management textbook, it establishes timeless principles for planning and leadership. It teaches believers to:
•Prepare responsibly.
•Preserve resources.
•Avoid waste.
•Fulfil promises.
•Establish justice.
•Consult others.
•Remain patient.
Place trust in Allah after employing lawful means. These principles remain relevant in every generation.
Characteristics of a Farsighted Believer According to the Qur’an
A Qur’an-centered believer strives to be:
□God-conscious.
□Truthful.
□Honest.
□Trustworthy.
□Just.
□Patient.
□Grateful.
□Humble.
□Knowledge-seeking.
□Responsible.
□Compassionate.
□Self-accountable.
These qualities distinguish Islamic foresight from worldly strategic thinking.
The Relevance of the Qur’an Today
Modern civilization has achieved extraordinary advances in science, technology, economics, and artificial intelligence.
YET KNOWLEDGE WITHOUT ETHICS CAN BECOME DESTRUCTIVE.
Power without morality can produce injustice. Technology without wisdom can harm humanity. The Qur’an provides the missing foundation by combining:
Knowledge + Faith + Character + Wisdom
Only when these four elements work together can true human success be achieved.
QUESTIONS FOR PERSONAL REFLECTION
Ask yourself:
○Do I merely recite the Qur’an, or do I reflect upon its message?
○Are my decisions guided by Qur’anic values?
○Do I react emotionally, or do I respond wisely?
○Does my planning include preparation for the Hereafter?
○Am I developing both my intellect and my character?
Summary
The Holy Qur’an teaches humanity:

☆How to reflect.
☆How to reason.
☆How to plan.
☆How to lead.
☆How to remain accountable.
☆How to trust Allah while fulfilling human responsibility.
Therefore, the Qur’an is not only a Book of worship. It is also a comprehensive guide for ethical leadership, responsible planning, sound judgment, and successful living. There are five essential principles:
- Reflection precedes sound decision-making.
- Wisdom is greater than knowledge alone.
- Accountability shapes responsible leadership.
- Every decision should consider both worldly and eternal consequences.
- True foresight begins with the guidance of Allah’s revelation.
Closing Prayer
“O Allah, grant us the ability to understand Your Book, to reflect upon its guidance, to act according to its teachings, and to make every decision in the light of Your wisdom. Bless us with insight, sincere faith, righteous character, and sound judgment. Make the Qur’an the light of our hearts, the guide for our decisions, and the path to success in this world and the Hereafter. Ameen.”
