Home Minister Amit Shah inquires about situation in Chenab Valley after heavy rains, landslides

Assures CM Omar Abdullah of full Central assistance to deal with natural disasters.

SRINAGAR, JULY 08 (STC): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has been asked by the Union Home Minister Amit Shah to review the Chenab Valley situation in the aftermath of devastation caused by heavy rains and landalides. Shah has assured the Chief Minister of all possible cooperation from the Center.
Reports quoting official sources said the Union Home Minister Amit Shah contacted Chief Minister Omar Abdullah over the phone and obtained detailed information on the situation arising from incessant rains in different areas of Jammu and Kashmir. He also inquired from the Chief Minister about public safety, relief activities and the steps being taken by the administration. Reports further state that the Home Minister assured Chief Minister that the Central Government will provide all possible support and necessary resources to the Jammu and Kashmir administration to deal with natural disasters or adverse weather conditions so that the people do not face any kind of difficulty.
The Chief Minister also said that Union Home Minister Amit Shah had contacted him over the phone regarding the situation in the Chenab Valley and Kathua affected areas due to recent heavy rains. He said, “I apprised the Home Minister about the ground situation, to which he assured all possible cooperation.”
Meanwhile, heavy rains in various areas of Jammu has affected the normal life. Waterlogging on roads, overflowing of rivers and canals and landslides have also been reported in many areas. The administration has issued instructions to all concerned departments to remain alert. According to officials, the district administration, police, SDRF, NDRF and other relevant agencies are ready to deal with any emergency. Sensitive areas are being continuously monitored and the public has also been appealed to avoid unnecessary travel during bad weather and follow the instructions issued by the administration.
