J&K Legislative Assembly Speaker directs review of EWS certificates to remove regional imbalance

SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 04 (STC): The issue of alleged regional imbalance in the issuance of certificates to economically weaker sections should be seriously examined so that no injustice is done to any section of the society,said Speaker of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Abdul Rahim Rather.
He has clarified that the government should identify those areas or aspects where improvement is needed in the system, so that all eligible persons can get equal opportunities and fair access to the prescribed facilities.
The Speaker said he has directed the government to examine the issue and take necessary steps where there is scope for improvement. He stressed that complaints regarding the issuance of EWS certificates and alleged regional disparities should be looked into seriously, so that there is no hindrance or discrimination in the access of eligible persons to the benefits available under this category.
It is worth mentioning that the issue of alleged regional imbalance in the issuance of EWS certificates was raised in the House during the recent autumn session of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly.
People’s Conference President and MLA Sajjad Ghani Lone, while moving a calling attention motion on the issue, had drawn the attention of the House to the alleged disparity in the issuance of EWS certificates in different regions.
Following the Speaker’s latest statement on the issue, the government is expected to review the procedure for issuing EWS certificates and its application in different regions.
