Media sector facing biggest credibility crisis, says Union Minister Nitin Gadkari

Journalists should work in the interest of the people and the country.

SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 05 (STC): Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has said that among all institutions, the media is currently facing the biggest credibility crisis.
Addressing a media conclave held in Nagpur, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said that India is the mother of democracy and the largest democracy in the world. Stressing the need for a qualitative change in democracy, he said that the Constitution has clearly defined the responsibilities of the four pillars of democracy, namely the legislature, the administration, the judiciary and the media.
He said that an independent, impartial and fair judiciary and media are very important for the development of democracy and the progress of the country.
“In the 21st century, reputation, good name and integrity are the biggest assets for all sectors. Although reputation has been affected in various sectors, the reputation crisis in the media sector has taken a very serious form,” Gadkari said and clarified that this does not mean that all media institutions have lost their reputation, however, the media as a whole needs to seriously consider restoring its reputation.
He said that in the past, newspapers and media institutions used to claim that they had the ability to decide the results of elections, but now social media has changed this scenario. He said that there is a reputation crisis in all sectors including politics, however, this problem is most important in the media sector. The Union Minister urged journalists to write news and articles keeping in mind the interest of the people, society and the country and reach out to the common people through quality journalism. He said that just as every good work is recognized, society also values ​​good journalism.
Gadkari said that in the coming time, only those media institutions and journalists will be successful which protect their reputation and professional values. He urged the media to play its role in strengthening democracy, protecting social and national interests and imparting knowledge to the society.
