RAJOURI, MAY 29 (STC): A joint anti-terror operation, codenamed “Operation Sheruwali”, launched by the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF entered its seventh day on Friday in the forest areas of Manjakote sector in Rajouri district, reports quoting officials said.
No casualties have been reported so far, reports said.
Reportedly, intelligence inputs about the presence of suspected terrorists in the area, have led to the search operation in the Gambhir Mughlan and Dorimal forest belt.
Officials said security forces have intensified the operation by tightening the cordon around the dense forest region to prevent the militants from escaping.
It’s pertinent to mention that heavy exchange of fire and shelling was reported in the Dorimal area on Thursday as the operation reached a crucial stage.
Additional reinforcements and logistical support have been rushed to the area to strengthen the operation, while surveillance and combing activities are continuing deep inside the forest belt.
Officials said security forces are conducting extensive searches in difficult terrain and maintaining a strict perimeter around the suspected hideout areas.
The operation, codenamed “Operation Sheruwali”, was launched jointly by the Army, CRPF and Jammu and Kashmir Police earlier this week after specific intelligence inputs about militant movement in the region.
