Partition not just chapter in history, but a living memory for millions of families: LG Sinha

SRINAGAR, AUGUST 14 (STC): Asking the youth of Jammu and Kashmir to ensure that the mistakes of the past are not repeated in the future, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said that where walls were once erected, bridges of trust should be built.
He was speaking at the solemn ceremony of the commemoration of the horrific events of the Partition of India held at Tagore Hall, Srinagar. The ceremony collectively remembered the millions of citizens who endured unimaginable suffering during the partition of 1947 and reaffirmed the resolve for national unity.
The Lieutenant Governor paid tribute to all those affected during the partition of India and said that their sacrifices will always be a source of inspiration for the generations to come. He said that the wound of partition is still present in the collective consciousness of every Indian today in the form of a pain.
“Even after many decades of partition, their sacrifices remind us that this wound has not yet healed, which remains as a pain in the collective soul of India from generation to generation. On the commemoration day of the horrific events of the partition of India, we are not just remembering the past but are giving a voice to the crores of people whose voice was taken away from them,” he said. He said that the pain of these people will not be allowed to be buried in the dust of history and it is everyone’s responsibility to preserve their memories. Sinha said that the victims should be treated with truth, honesty and complete respect. It is our responsibility towards humanity to remember with sensitivity.
“Their stories related to the Partition of India are an unforgettable chapter in the national consciousness and their sacrifices will always live in the spirit of Mother India, the LG said while urging the people of Jammu and Kashmir to celebrate this day as an occasion of self-accountability and national resolve.
He appealed to the youth, farmers, workers and women to move forward with courage and determination and further accelerate the journey of development, peace and harmony. He appreciated the steadfastness of those who showed unparalleled courage to rebuild their lives during Partition and further strengthened the social fabric of the country through their historical traditions, values ​​and cultural heritage.
“Today is an opportunity to acknowledge the pain of the past and strengthen our unwavering commitment to peace, harmony and national unity. This day reminds us that only the lessons of history can make the future safe and humane,” the Lieutenant Governor said and further stated that the Partition of India divided families and forced people from Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir and Chhamb to migrate.
He also paid tribute to those who faced discrimination in Jammu and Kashmir for decades. The Lieutenant Governor also paid tribute to the countless families who sacrificed their lives during the tribal attacks that took place a few months after Partition.
He said, “Just a few months after Partition, the enemies of the country carried out terrorist attacks in the guise of tribal invaders. The Indian Army and the people fought bravely. The struggle and sacrifices of countless families are an integral part of the collective memory of Jammu and Kashmir.”
He saluted the patience, hard work and unwavering patriotism of all those families who maintained their commitment to the country even in the most difficult circumstances.
He said, “We must pledge to make the coming generations aware of the pain of partition, strengthen peace and harmony and ensure that such a tragic situation never arises again. Building a self-reliant Jammu and Kashmir is our shared responsibility and national unity is the foundation of our strength, security and collective progress.”
