SKIMS establishes Vay Vandhana Card Generation camp at OPD for senior citizens aged 70 years and above

SRINAGAR, MARCH 14 (STC): Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) today launched a Vay Vandhana Card Generation Camp at its OPD complex. The camp aimed at facilitating senior citizens aged 70 years and above was inaugurated by Director SKIMS Prof. M. Ashraf Ganie.
The initiative is part of a Government-backed health insurance scheme under which elderly citizens are provided free treatment coverage with a top-up benefit of up to ₹5 lakh per year through the Ayushman Bharat scheme, irrespective of their socioeconomic status.
The camp has been established to ensure that eligible senior citizens visiting SKIMS can conveniently generate their Vay Vandhana Cards, enabling them to avail the benefits of the scheme for medical treatment.
Speaking on the occasion, Director SKIMS emphasized the importance of extending healthcare security to the elderly population and stated that the initiative reflects the institution’s commitment to improving access to healthcare and social protection for senior citizens.
Senior citizens above 70 years of age attending SKIMS OPD will benefit from the on-site card generation facility, making it easier for them to enroll and access the scheme.
Medical Superintendent SKIMS, Dr. Farooq Jan, and Administrative Incharge OPD, Dr. Haroon, were also present on the occasion along with other officers.
