Pension amount for senior citizens and widows also increased

SRINAGAR, AUGUST 03 (STC): Announcing that the financial assistance provided for the marriage of poor women has been increased from Rs 50,000 to Rs 75,000, Minister for Health and Education Sakina Itu said that the amount of pension for senior citizens and widows has also been increased, which is aimed at providing better financial security to the weaker sections of the society. Aimed at providing better financial security to the weaker sections of the society, Jammu and Kashmir government has increased the financial assistance provided for the marriage of poor women from Rs 50,000 to Rs 75,000. The pension amount for senior citizens and widows has also been increased.
The Minister for Health and Education Sakina Itoo announced this during a function in Baramulla today. She said that free education for girls up to class 12 has been introduced to promote girls’ education and reduce the school dropout rate. “The government’s aim is to ensure that financial difficulties do not become a hindrance to any girl’s education and that as many girls as possible can complete their education, Sakina Itoo said and urged the concerned authorities to create widespread awareness among the public about the various social welfare schemes launched by the government so that the deserving people can take full advantage of these schemes.
She asked the officers to disseminate information about welfare schemes to the ground level and ensure that government benefits are not limited to papers but reach the real beneficiaries. The Minister said that the government will continue its efforts for the welfare of women, Anganwadi workers, senior citizens, widows and other weaker sections.
