GDC Hyderpora Organizes Annual Road Race

STC News Desk: Government Degree College Hyderpora today organised an Annual Road Race from SKICC to Nishat Garden as part of the ongoing 100 Days Intensive Campaign on Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan launched by the Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha on 11th April, 2026.

As per handout released by the College, a large number of students, both boys and girls, participated enthusiastically in the event to spread awareness about drug addiction which has become a social emergency.

The event was conducted by the Nodal Officer, Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, Prof. Abdaal Ahmad Bhat, in collaboration with the Department of Physical Education, Government Degree College Hyderpora with a view to create awareness about drug menace which is spreading its tentacles across the nook and corners of Jammu and Kashmir.

The race commenced at 6:30 AM from the SKICC gate and was flagged off by the worthy Principal, Dr.Sharief Ud Din Khan who was flanked by the senior faculty members and non-teaching staff of the college. The event witnessed active participation from students across different semesters, reflecting their zeal and commitment towards physical fitness and the larger objective of spreading awareness against drug abuse.
In the boys category, the top three positions were secured by Amjid Hussain, Abrar Syed, and Owais Bhat of BG 2nd Semester respectively. In the girls category, Aneesa Sikander, Seerat Iqbal, and Soniya Barkat emerged as the winners.

The students were felicitated by the Principal near the Nishat Garden gate. Mementos, medals, and certificates were awarded to the position holders, while bronze medals were presented to other participants as consolation prizes in recognition of their enthusiastic participation.

Refreshments and water bottles were provided to all the participating students and accompanying staff members.
Addressing the students on the occasion, the Principal highlighted the significance of organising such events to develop stamina, endurance, discipline, and team spirit among the students. He also stressed the importance of engaging youth in constructive and healthy activities to keep them away from the scourge of drug addiction and to promote the message of a drug-free society.
