One protest at Jantar Mantar not enough to get statehood back, says J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah

SRINAGAR, JULY 30 (STC): Even as National Conference (NC) was knowing that their protest at Jantar Mantar for restoring statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, the party was conscious that continuous efforts are necessary to satisfy the demand. The restoration of statehood will not be fulfilled by just one protest or demonstration.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah stated this in an interaction with media at Ganderbal today. He said, “Results cannot be achieved through one protest. The National Conference did not limit this issue to just one day or one date but continued its struggle for the restoration of statehood.”
The Chief Minister said that the National Conference did not wait for August 5 but conveyed its demand to Delhi even before that. He clarified that the party has adopted political and democratic means to raise issues related to the rights of Jammu and Kashmir, including the restoration of statehood, before the Center.
He said that the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly had passed a resolution regarding the special status and constitutional guarantees of the erstwhile state, which has been sent to the Center. “Whatever necessary steps need to be taken on the resolution passed by the Assembly and other issues on August 5, they will be taken, however, the National Conference will not sit silent waiting for a specific date,” he said.
He also stressed that the promise of restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir should be fulfilled. In this regard, as stated by the CM, the demand will continue to be highlighted through continuous political struggle and democratic process.
