Police registers case against Iltija Mufti for attacking police officer during protests

SRINAGAR, AUGUST 06 (STC): Jammu and Kashmir Police have registered an FIR against PDP leader Iltija Mufti for allegedly attacking a police officer during a protest on the anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370, said reports quoting police officials.
According to the police, a protest demonstration was held at Sher Kashmir Park on the evening of August 4 under the leadership of PDP President Mehbooba Mufti and Iltija Mufti, where a group of protesters allegedly tried to block the Residency Road and march towards Lal Chowk.
Police said that male and female police personnel deployed at the spot repeatedly appealed to the protesters to maintain peace and law and order and follow legal instructions, however, some people tried to cross the police barricades and interfere with the work of the officers on duty.
According to the police statement, during the scuffle that took place during this time, Iltija Mufti allegedly grabbed a police officer and bit him on the arm, due to which the officer was injured and his arm started bleeding.
Police said that the injured officer was immediately shifted to the hospital for treatment. Taking the matter of alleged assault on a government servant and obstruction in the discharge of official duties seriously, an FIR No. 63/2026 has been registered at the Kothi Bagh police station and an investigation has been initiated, said police.
Iltija Mufti was summoned to the Kothi Bagh police station on Thursday to join the investigation as per the law. The police said that the investigation is going on in the matter.
