WEATHER ADVISORY: Rains predicted again in Jammu and Kashmir for the next 10 days

STINAGAR, AUGUST 07 (STC): Meteorological Department has once again issued a weather calendar, predicting another humid weather pattern in Jammu and Kashmir during the next 10 days and issued a warning of heavy to very heavy rains in several districts of Jammu division.
The department has advised the people and the administration to be cautious in view of the risk of flash floods, landslides and waterlogging due to heavy rain in some areas during August 9-11.
According to the Meteorological Department, light to moderate rain and one or two spells of drizzle with thundershowers are expected at many places in Jammu and Kashmir on August 7 and 8. During this time, heavy rain may also occur at some places for a short period. Light to moderate rain and a few spells of thundershowers are expected at most places during August 9-11.
However, heavy to very heavy rain has been forecast at some districts of Jammu division during this period. The department has also predicted short-term heavy rain in some districts of Kashmir division. The Meteorological Department said that light rain and thundershowers will continue to occur in many areas of Jammu and Kashmir from August 12 to 17, while short-term heavy rain may occur at some places.
The department, while issuing a special advisory for August 9 to 11, has said that the situation may suddenly deteriorate as a result of heavy to very heavy rain and short-term but heavy rain in some districts.
The Meteorological Department has warned that heavy rain and short-term heavy rain may cause flash floods and landslides in sensitive and vulnerable places, while there is also a possibility of water accumulation in low-lying areas. As a result, roads, communication routes and other infrastructure are also likely to be temporarily affected.
The department has advised the public to stay away from drains, rivers, streams, landslide-prone areas and other sensitive places and avoid unnecessary travel during bad weather. On the other hand, the concerned authorities have also been directed to keep a close watch on the situation, increase surveillance at sensitive places and make necessary arrangements in advance to deal with any emergency.
