SRINAGAR, FEBRUARY 22 (STC): Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Iltija Mufti while talking to media said that seeking ban on sale of alcohol in Jammu and Kashmir is not a political issue, but a social one.
Backing a bill proposed by its MLA Mir Mohammad Fayaz, calling for a complete ban on alcohol in Jammu and Kashmir, the PDP leader started a signature campaign in Srinagar to garner support for banning liquor in the region.
The campaign was launched by PDP leader Iltija Mufti at the party’s head office after the police did not allow them to hold the event at Sher-e-Kashmir Park as planned.
Speaking to reporters, Iltija said that drugs and alcohol are spreading rapidly and harming society. While urging people to support the campaign, she said, “Many liquor shops have opened in J&K in recent years, making alcohol easily available. This is not a political issue, but a social one. We request all political parties, including NC, PC and BJP to support the bill.”
The PDP leader called on people to join the campaign and support the fight against alcohol and drug abuse. She also appealed to the government to make J&K alcohol-free, just like Bihar, Gujarat, and Nagaland. She stressed that banning liquor would not affect tourism and would help protect the youth from addiction. (STC)
