SRINAGAR, APRIL 19 (STC): The Meteorological Department has issued a fresh advisory, urging the public to stay indoors. The department warns of intense rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds in several parts of Jammu and Kashmir over the next 6 to 8 hours.
According to a MeT official, “Moderate rain with intense showers, along with moderate to severe thunderstorm, lightning, and gusty winds is expected at many places across J&K in the coming hours.” Residents have been strongly advised to stay indoors or take shelter in safe places, and to avoid water bodies, unstable structures, and landslide-prone areas.
Since Friday evening heavy rains lashied most parts of Jammu and Kashmir. This shift is attributed to an active Western Disturbance, which is forecast to intensify over the next 48 hours. The system is expected to bring widespread light to moderate rain across the plains and snowfall in the higher reaches.
The MeT centre in Srinagar has cautioned that areas located in middle and upper altitudes may experience heavy precipitation, posing potential risks of flash floods, landslides, and road disruptions.(STC)
