SRINAGAR, JULY 25 (STC): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is ready to contest the two vacant assembly seats in Jammu and Kashmir one left vacant after the death of a party worker and the other following the resignation of Omar Abdullah.
This was disclosed today by Ashok Koul, BJP’s Jammu and Kashmir General Secretary (Organisation).
He said a previous notification for elections coincided with the Pahalgam incident, which may have led to a delay in the process. “We feel the elections were held back due to that event, but both seats are likely to go for polls in the next phase,” Koul said.
Koul said, “First, the National Conference should get its own allies on board. When their partners support them, then others will think about it. Why are they looking for the BJP if their own coalition is not united?”
Regarding the upcoming Independence Day, he dismissed reports about a proposed Tiranga rally, clarifying that the BJP would act as per the Centre’s directions.
