SRINAGAR, AUGUST 23 (STC): Apni Party president Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari on Sunday demanded that the Power Minister either resign or be sacked for “misleading” the public and making “false promises.” He said instead of fulfilling the promise of providing 200 units of free electricity, the government slapped hike in electricity fee.
He also accused the National Conference-led government of “complete failure” in tackling Srinagar’s acute water crisis. He
“The summer capital was reduced to begging for water,” Altaf Bukhari said while addressing a gathering at Khanyar here today. He blamed the “incompetent and insensitive” bureaucracy for the grim situation that has left thousands of households parched.
“Today, the water shortage in Srinagar is worse than what we used to see in far-flung mountainous areas. People are begging for water in the city of gardens. This is the result of an administration that cannot deliver,” Bukhari said.
Taking a dig at the Power Minister, Altaf Bukhari accused him of “insulting” the people by backtracking on his promise of 200 units of free electricity, and approving only 66 per cent instead.
“He talks in two languages. He says he will present a report card after five years. I ask him — show us your work in the next 50 days. Or leave the chair,” Bukhari said.
The Apni Party chief also alleged misconduct, claiming the minister was “throwing caps at people” instead of addressing their grievances. He further accused the administration of practising discrimination, alleging that Kashmiris were being deliberately denied benefits “because they do not pay bribes.”
Earlier, Bukhari congratulated the residents of Khanyar and assured them that a new foundation for their welfare had been laid. He reiterated his party’s commitment to restoring the “lost glory” of the city.
