India – China relations need to further strengthen peace efforts in border areas: NSA Ajit Doval

SRINAGAR, AUGUST 26 (STC): Stating that India-China relations are gradually returning to normal, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval said that maintaining peace and tranquility in the border areas is of fundamental importance for normalizing bilateral relations.
Reports said India and China held detailed discussions on ways to maintain peace and stability along the Line of Actual Control, ensure peace and tranquility in the border areas and progress in the process of border demarcation between the two countries. The talks were held between India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing.
According to Ajit Doval, the normal situation that has been restored in India-China relations is a direct result of maintaining peace and tranquility in the border areas by both sides. He said that both countries need to make their efforts for peace and tranquility in the border areas more effective and stronger. According to the Indian embassy, ​​​​the two sides reviewed the ongoing positive developments in bilateral relations, which are in line with the guidance and vision given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping. During the talks, they also discussed further expanding bilateral cooperation, maintaining peace and stability in the border areas, making progress on the issue of border demarcation and continuing cross-border cooperation.
Ajit Doval said that he was happy to participate in the 25th round of talks in Beijing, which are of particular importance in the context of the upcoming BRICS summit. He said that the leaders of the two countries, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping, have provided a clear and positive direction for bilateral relations. He mentioned the progress made in relations between the two countries after the prolonged military standoff in eastern Ladakh and said that relations between India and China are gradually returning to normal. Doval said that maintaining peace and tranquility in the border areas is of fundamental importance for the normalization of bilateral relations.
The talks also touched upon the improvement of people-to-people contacts. Doval said that the successful conduct of the Kailash-Mansarovar Yatra via Nathu La and the resumption of border trade through the three traditional passes have brought tangible benefits to the people of both countries, especially those living in the border areas. On the other hand, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that China-India relations are no longer limited to the bilateral sphere but have also increased in global and strategic significance. He stressed the need to enhance communication between the two countries, strengthen mutual trust, and remove differences and obstacles.
Wang Yi said that the two countries should strive to be good neighbors and good partners who contribute to each other’s success. He said that China and India should learn from the past, view the border issue in a proper manner in the broader context of bilateral relations and continue to push forward the dialogue process.
Stressing the need to create a positive environment on border issues, the Chinese Foreign Minister said that dialogue, peace, consultation and cooperation should be the main means of border relations between the two countries. He said that this will create positive factors for the stable and healthy development of bilateral relations.
