J&K and Ladakh witness transformation across key sectors after abrogation of Article 370: PM Modi

Links anniversary with Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee’s 125th birth anniversary.

NEW DELHI, AUGUST 05 (STC): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday marked seven years since the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35(A) in erstwhile State of Jammu and Kashmir, describing August 5, 2019 as a defining milestone in India’s journey towards inclusive development.
Notably, on August 5, 2019, the Centre effectively revoked the special status accorded to Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 and reorganised the erstwhile state into the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister said the decision marked a “decisive new chapter” in the journey of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
He said the past seven years have witnessed wide-ranging transformation in the two Union Territories, including expansion of infrastructure and increased opportunities in education, healthcare, entrepreneurship and sports.
Modi also said women and members of marginalised communities who had previously been deprived of several constitutional rights have been empowered through the full application of the Constitution of India.
“This year’s anniversary carries additional significance as India commemorates the 125th birth anniversary of Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee,” Modi said and added Mookerjee’s commitment to national unity continues to inspire generations and that his vision found “historic fulfilment” on August 5, 2019.
He reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to the progress of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, saying every citizen should have the opportunity to pursue their aspirations and contribute towards building a Viksit Bharat.
