: The Department of Community Medicine, Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar, under its ongoing Family Adoption Programme, joined forces with the Rotary Club of Kashmir ESRAG and Kashmir Concern to conduct a mega plantation and cleanliness drive in the Noorbagh area of Srinagar today.
Around 180 MBBS students from GMC Srinagar actively participated alongside a large number of dedicated volunteers, local village heads (Sarpanchs/Numberdars), and their respective teams. The collective effort underscored a powerful commitment to environmental stewardship and community health.
The drive was designed to achieve twin objectives: improving the environmental landscape of Noorbagh through extensive plantation, and promoting public hygiene through a rigorous cleanliness campaign. Students and volunteers worked side-by-side, clearing waste from designated areas and planting saplings to enhance green cover.
Speaking about the collaboration, the Head of the Department of Community Medicine, GMC Srinagar, said, “A clean environment and green spaces are fundamental to preventive medicine. This joint drive is a practical step towards embedding these values in our students while directly benefiting the Noorbagh community.”
Representatives from the Rotary Club of Kashmir ESRAG and Kashmir Concern lauded the enthusiasm of the medical students and the cooperation of local residents. They reaffirmed their commitment to partnering with academic institutions for sustainable development and public health initiatives.
Local village heads expressed gratitude for the drive, noting that it has not only improved the physical environment of Noorbagh but also raised awareness among residents about the importance of cleanliness and tree plantation.
The event concluded with a pledge by all participants to continue such collaborative efforts for a healthier, cleaner, and greener Kashmir.
