Restoration of statehood to empower people, strengthen the democratic system,says CM’s Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani

SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 27 (STC): The Bharatiya Janata Party is going back on its own promises regarding the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, said Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s advisor Nasir Aslam Wani during his conversation with reporters in Gulmarg today. He stated that the demand for restoration of statehood is not being made for the interest of any individual or political party but for the purpose of empowering the people of Jammu and Kashmir and strengthening democratic governance.
Wani said that the Prime Minister, the Union Home Minister and the Parliament had promised to restore the statehood of Jammu and Kashmir. He questioned the BJP’s stance on opposing the latest resolution passed by the Assembly to restore statehood. He said it was beyond understanding why the BJP was protesting and creating ruckus over a resolution presented in the Assembly regarding its own election promises. He said that the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly had already passed two resolutions, while the latest resolution was specifically related to the restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. The latest resolution presented in the Assembly on September 25 had demanded the Government of India to restore full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir on an immediate and priority basis. The resolution also referred to previous resolutions passed in 2000 and November 2024, which drew strong protests from BJP members in the assembly. Nasir Aslam Wani said that the resolution passed by the assembly is the property of the house and as long as the democratic system remains in Jammu and Kashmir, this resolution will also remain a part of the democratic record.
He said, “This is the property of the house and as long as democracy is alive here, this resolution will also exist.” According to Wani, the demand for restoration of statehood is not being made to benefit any specific political party or individual, but its aim is to empower the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
