WEATHER ADVISORY: Heavy rains, flash floods predicted from July 28 to 31

SRINAGAR, JULY 27 (STC): Srinagar Meteorological Department has predicted a new spell of rain in Jammu and Kashmir from July 28, warning that there will be a risk of heavy to very heavy rain, flash floods, landslides and mudslides in many areas during this period, while the intensity of the rains is likely to reach its peak on July 30 and 31.
A Meteorological Department official said that rain and drizzle with thundershowers are expected in most areas from the afternoon to evening of July 27, after which the weather will improve.
According to the department, light to moderate rain and several spells of thundershowers are expected at most places in Kashmir from July 28 to 31, while short but heavy rains may occur in a few districts in the early morning and evening hours. Light to moderate rain has also been predicted at most places in Jammu province during the same period, however, heavy and torrential rain is likely in a few districts. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected especially in Udhampur and its adjoining areas during the night, morning and evening hours, while the rainfall activity is expected to be highest on July 30 and 31.
The Meteorological Department further said that there will be chances of one or two showers and thunderstorms at many places on August 1 and 2, while on August 3 and 4, heavy and torrential rainfall will continue in some districts of Jammu province along with rain at many places. The department has warned in its advisory that flash floods, landslides, mudslides and localised flooding may occur in low-lying and sensitive areas due to heavy and short-duration heavy rainfall during July 28 to 31.
