Opposition all set to make J&K Assembly autumn session stormy

Statehood, reservation rationalisation and other issues to dominate the session.

: Omar-led National Conference government in Jammu and Kashmir is going to face tough time in the autumn session of the Jammu & Kashmir Assembly over its ‘failure to fulfill its poll promises and other governance issues.
It’s worth mentioning that J&K Legislative Assembly is holding 9-day autumn session from October 23 to 31 at Srinagar.
Leader of Opposition, Sunil Sharma, in a statement has said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is will demand accountability from the National Conference-led government for“betrayal of electoral promises.”
He said, “The government has failed to deliver on its commitments made during the elections-whether it is the promise of 200 free units of electricity, 12 LPG cylinders per household, or other assurances given to the people.”
The issue of government’s inability to create employment avenues for the youth will also be raised, said Sunil Sharma . “In the election, the government promised to create one lakh jobs for the youth, but they have done nothing. We will ask them what they have done for the youth in the past year,” he said.
Apart from the BJP, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), People’s Conference (PC) and other members of the opposition are gearing up to question the government over statehood, reservation rationalisation, and other issues.
Notably, three government bills to be introduced by the government will remain in focus in this session of Assembly. The cabinet has already given its nod for amendments to the Jammu & Kashmir Panchayati Raj Act, 1989, and the Goods & Services Tax Act, 2017, as well as for the enactment of the Jammu and Kashmir Shops and Business Establishment Bill, 2025.
Reportedly, 450 questions, 13 private members’ bills, and 55 private members’ resolutions have been received by the Legislative Assembly Secretariat for the session. Thirty-three private members’ bills, which were submitted in the last Assembly session, are pending in the House and will be given preference in business on October 28-the day fixed for private members’ resolutions.
