CM Omar Abdullah says further delay in restoration of J&K’s statehood unacceptable

SRINAGAR, JULY 08 (STC): Stating that further delay in restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir is unacceptable, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said that various sections of civil society have supported the National Conference’s proposed protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on July 20. All regional political parties will also be invited to participate in this protest, he said.
“Various sections of civil society have strongly supported the demand for restoration of statehood and have supported the participation in the proposed protest of the National Conference at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on July 20, while all regional political parties will also be invited to participate in this protest, Omar Abdullah said while speaking to media persons at SKICC, here today. He disclosed that a meeting was held consisting of about 170 representatives of civil society, in which religious leaders, businessmen, educationists, retired bureaucrats, people associated with the tourism sector and representatives of various other sections participated. The meeting lasted for about three hours.
Omar Abdullah said, “This was not a delegation but a joint meeting of civil society. All the participants in the meeting unanimously said that there has already been a lot of delay in restoring statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, now any further delay is not acceptable.”
He said that a resolution was passed in the meeting demanding the central government to immediately restore statehood, while full support was also announced for the protest at Jantar Mantar on July 20. He said that National Conference President Dr. Farooq Abdullah will also contact leaders of national and other regional parties so that they join the protest and support the demand for restoration of statehood.
