Srinagar February 1 (STC): Following Mirwaiz Umar Farooq’s call to facilitate return of Kashmiri Pandits (KP) to Kashmir, an Inter-Community Committee has been formed under the leadership of Mirwaiz to work towards their return and promote communal harmony in Kashmir.
According to a report by local news agency Kashmir News Service, a delegation of Kashmiri Pandits from the J K Peace Forum met Mirwaiz on January 31, at Hotel JW Marriott, New Delhi.
Quoting Satish Mahaldar, the news agency reports that the meeting lasted for about one and a half hours and focused on reconciliation and steps to restore Kashmir’s composite culture.
Mirwaiz, as per reports, acknowledged the suffering of both communities, particularly the exodus of 1989-90, and called it a humanitarian issue that needs urgent attention. He stated that Kashmir is incomplete without Kashmiri Pandits and emphasized the need to educate the younger generation about Kashmir’s pluralistic traditions.
Kashmiri Pandit delegation spoke about their hardships, including displacement, financial struggles, and the loss of their homeland. They stressed that despite their suffering, they have always extended support to their Muslim brethren in times of distress. They urged Mirwaiz Umar Farooq to play a leading role in ensuring their return and reintegration, reports KNS quoting Mahaldar.
As per reports, the newly formed Inter-Community Committee will focus on:
• Facilitating the safe return of Kashmiri Pandits.
• Addressing the concerns of minority communities.
• Encouraging economic development and employment generation.
• Preserving Kashmir’s unique cultural and religious heritage.
• Promoting cooperation among young professionals.
The committee will also explore government-backed rehabilitation initiatives, including inclusive designated colonies to assist in the return of displaced Kashmiri Pandits.
Mirwaiz has assured the delegation that he would take proactive steps to move this initiative forward.(STC)
