SRINAGAR, FEBRUARY 14 (STC): The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in a circular has directed all banks dealing with government transactions to keep their branches open for the public on March 31, 2025, despite the day being a public holiday on account of Eid-Ul-Fitr.
In a notification issued to all banks handling the government business, the RBI circular reads:
“The Government of India has made a request to keep all branches of the banks dealing with Government receipts and payments open for transactions on March 31, 2025 (Monday-Public Holiday) so as to account for all the Government transactions relating to receipts and payments in the Financial Year 2024-25 itself.”
Accordingly, the apex bank has advised agency banks to keep all their branches dealing with government business open on March 31, 2025 (Monday).
Banks have also been asked to give wide publicity about the availability of banking services on the said date.
Remarkably, these agency banks operate through designated branches that handle government receipts and payments, including tax collections and pension disbursements. March 31 marks the end of the financial year, a critical period for the government to finalise its fiscal accounts. (STC)
