Union Minority Affairs Minister talks Budget 2025 tax sops in Srinagar press conference

SRINAGAR, FEBRUARY 15 (STC): Union Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju in a press conference held here today explained the income tax relief passed on to middle class population in Budget 2025. At the same time he highlighted the significant development in Jammu and Kashmir that has take place under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.
Kiren Rijiju said, “The abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019 has ushered in a new era of growth and progress in the region. The completion of major infrastructure projects, the advancement of ongoing works, and the effective implementation of various centrally sponsored schemes is evidence of this transformation.”
The union minister described the Union Budget for 2025-26 a “pro-people” budget, to boost economic growth and inclusivity. “The budget proposes raising the income threshold for the nil tax slab to Rs 1.2 million per annum, effectively reducing the tax burden on the middle class. Additionally, changes in tax slabs and rates are set to benefit all taxpayers. The Budget also offers hsignificant benefits, particularly for artisans and farmers.” he said.
He added that the budget introduces a “Deep Tech Fund of Funds” with an allocation of Rs 20,000 crore to promote innovation and support startups. Additionally, credit guarantees for small and medium enterprises have been enhanced to Rs 100 million.
Responding to a question, Rijiju reiterated the Modi government’s commitment to zero tolerance against corruption.
Talking about Waqf (Amendment) Bill, the Union Minority Affairs Minister said that several Muslim MPs have also backed the bill. “Even Muslim MPs are okay with it, and they have privately conveyed their support to me,” he said in the press conference.
He emphasized that the proposed amendments would enhance transparency in Waqf properties and ultimately benefit the community.
He also expressed optimism about Kashmir’s economic future, stating that the region is poised to become the most prosperous and sought-after tourist destination in India. (STC)
