Mercury hits 37.4°C in Srinagar; hottest since 1953

Srinagar recorded its third-highest maximum temperature ever at 37.4°C today, said the Meteorological Centre, Srinagar.
This marks one of the hottest July days on record for the city.
The current temperature falls just short of the previous highs: 37.7°C recorded on July 5, 1953, and the all-time highest of 38.3°C on July 10, 1946.
Other parts of Jammu and Kashmir also witnessed record-breaking temperatures. Kukernag, a popular hill destination, recorded 34.0°C, making it the second-highest temperature for the month of July in the station’s history.
The previous record of 34.1°C was set just last year, on July 28, 2024.
In Pahalgam, known for its cool weather and scenic landscapes, the temperature soared to 31.6°C, the highest ever recorded at the station.
The earlier record was 31.5°C, noted on July 21, 2024.
