SRINAGAR, AUGUST 09 (STC): In a significant disclosure, the Indian Air Force (IAF) has revealed that six Pakistani aircraft including five fighter jets and an AWACS surveillance plane were destroyed during “Operation Sindoor” – May 7 military offensive launched after the Pahalgam attack.
Air Chief Marshal AP Singh has disclosed said that the Russian-made S-400 missile system played a key role in the aerial kills. He also confirmed that Pakistan Air Force suffered additional losses on the ground in strikes targeting its airbases.
The Air Chief Marshal was speaking at the 16th Air Chief Marshal LM Katre Lecture in Bengaluru.
Calling the downing of the AWACS a “massive blow” to Pakistan’s air strength, the IAF Chief shared satellite images showing the precision of the strikes. At Bahawalpur, the Jaish-e-Mohammad headquarters, and Muridke, the Lashkar-e-Taiba’s base, the visuals showed no collateral damage to nearby buildings.
According to the IAF, nine terror locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir were hit, killing over a hundred terrorists. The strikes came in response to the April 22 Pahalgam massacre, in which 26 civilians were killed by Pakistan-linked militants.
